About us
Thank you for visiting Rafla Design! We’d love to get to know you, but we know you’ll make that decision based on what you know about us. So here it is: we are a father-son duo with a love for design. Rafla Design began in 2000 by Joseph Rafla, a Civil Engineer overseas, who started by designing the homes of his three brothers. I, Michael Rafla and son of Joseph, then joined what was to become a successful venture.
Since then, our family-owned business has taken on over 1000 projects in 20 years. We take care of the building design of single and double-storey houses, duplexes, townhouses, granny flats and more – no job is too small. We can design for a new project or a renovation while keeping budget and realistic designs at the forefront.

Free Initial Consultation
The first step of the journey is that you contact us and we arrange an appointment for you completely free of charge and without obligation. In our meeting you tell us exactly what it is you want, and if you’re not entirely sure of a plan, we’ll work it out together. Our experience and advice will give you a better understanding of the direction to go. If you’re happy with our consultation and want to proceed, you pay a 50% deposit and we get started.
Produce the Survey Plan
If you have a survey plan of your site, great! If not, no stress – you can organise your own surveyor or we can take care of that for you and send a surveyor with an additional cost that goes directly to them. We add no additional charges of our own to organise a surveyor for you.

Conduct a Design Consultation
After we have the survey plans, we’ll begin drafting design options based on what we discussed in the initial consultation. We present the different versions of iterations to you and alter the designs until you are 100% happy. When we have your tick of approval, we proceed with the final plan and you will make the last payment to us of the 50% remaining cost.
Council Submission & Approval
We submit the plans to Council for you and liaise with them directly. In the case of minor changes needed by them, we will inform you and make the necessary changes without any additional cost to you. We continue to deal with Council all the way through to approval, so you don’t have to worry about that. Council will then send us an approval pack which we will pass on to you.
Start Building Your Project
Congratulations! You have your Council approval and you’re set to go. Although your journey with us ends here, we are happy to oversee your build to ensure that it is as accurate as possible to the plan. We’ll keep in touch with you and will still be there to answer any questions you may have.
